Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

From Gino Reyes, Inclusive Leadership:

Our Commitment to Inclusive Leadership

Rotary has long stood on the foundation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). These values are reflected in our Four-Way Test, our Code of Conduct, and even our DEI-specific Code of Conduct. These principles are not just policies—they are integral to who we are as Rotarians. That foundation remains strong and will always be a part of Rotary.

As we look to the future of Rotary, we are excited to share that we are pivoting from a focus on DEI to a focus through Inclusive Leadership. This shift is not about replacing DEI—it’s about building on it. Inclusive Leadership is the practice of living our values daily, ensuring that no matter how long someone has been in Rotary—whether new, current, or longtime members—we are all accountable for creating space where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and heard.

Inclusive Leadership is not about changing how Rotary operates; it’s about adapting and expanding our approach so we can increase our impact and strengthen our connections. It means asking: Who’s not in the room? and then intentionally going out to invite them in. It means embedding inclusion into everything we say and do—our meetings, our service projects, our leadership practices, and our everyday conversations.

At the heart of it, every person wants to feel like they belong. Rotary is the perfect space to nurture that sense of community. So let’s lead with inclusivity—together. Let’s be the kind of leaders who make space, open doors, and lift others as we serve.

This is Inclusive Leadership. This is Rotary.

DEI resources for Rotary members are available on My Rotary, including the DEI Code of Conduct, which provides a supportive framework for how Rotary members and participants can create and maintain an environment that is collaborative, positive, and healthy for everyone.
